Sindh Police and law enforcement agencies have arrested four suspects involved in the murder of senior anchorperson Imtiaz Mir. The accused are said to be affiliated with an international terrorist organization named Lashkar-e-Sarallah.
Addressing a joint press conference, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar and the Karachi Police Chief announced the arrests, claiming a major breakthrough in the investigation.
The Home Minister stated that the suspects, who are highly educated, are linked to an international terror network. Among the arrested individuals is the main shooter responsible for firing on Imtiaz Mir. Authorities also recovered the motorcycle and other items used in the attack.
He recalled that Imtiaz Mir, a senior anchor associated with a private news channel, was shot near Kala Board last month. He remained under treatment for a week before succumbing to his injuries in the hospital.
Lanjar said that Sindh Police and a federal intelligence agency conducted a joint operation, arresting four suspects from Nazimabad and other areas. The accused were reportedly taking instructions from abroad, and one of them, identified as Ajlal, had been previously arrested in another case.
According to the Home Minister, the arrested suspects include graduates and matriculation pass individuals who were trained overseas.
He added that the same group is involved in police target killings, and ballistic tests have matched the shell casings recovered from the crime scene.
Efforts are underway to apprehend additional accomplices involved in the killing, the minister said.
