Which routes are closed in Rawalpindi and Islamabad today?

In view of a possible protest call by a religious party in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the police and district administration have taken strict security measures, completely closing several key highways and entry points.

According to sources, a total of 37 locations between the two cities have been blocked with containers, trailers, and other barricades to prevent any untoward incidents.

The administration said that Murree Road, Faizabad, Moti Mahal Chowk, Shamsabad, Dhoke Kalaan, IJP Road, Pandora Chowk, Khanna Pul, and Chak Madad have been closed for traffic.

Similarly, all routes connecting Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been completely sealed.

Traffic flow on GT Road has also been suspended at several points including Taxila Chowk, Brahma Interchange, Fateh Jang Toll Plaza, Chak Beli Mor, Gujar Khan, Mandra Toll Plaza, and Chakwal Mor.

For security reasons, heavy police deployment has been made at Kalma Chowk, Rahimabad, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Swan Pul, and Adiala Road.

According to police, more than 6,000 personnel and officers have been deployed in the city, while 37 security checkpoints have been established.

Officers on duty have been provided with tear gas, rubber bullets, and 12-bore weapons to control riots. However, officers below the rank of SP have not been allowed to carry firearms.

City Police Officer Khalid Hamdani is personally supervising the Command and Control operations. On Murree Road, from Shalimar Chowk to Faizabad, 13 special police teams and rooftop units have been deployed.

The district administration has imposed Section 144 for four days, under which all kinds of gatherings, processions, public assemblies, and pillion riding on motorcycles have been completely banned.

As a precautionary measure, the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service has also been suspended, and police personnel have been stationed at all metro stations.

According to sources, on the orders of the Ministry of Interior, mobile internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been suspended for an indefinite period.
