Pakistan and the island nation of Micronesia, located in the Western Pacific Ocean, have formally established diplomatic relations, as reported by national media on Friday.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, and the Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia, Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe, signed a joint communiqué in New York through which the relations between the two countries were formalized.
The signing ceremony was held at the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations, attended by diplomats from both countries, including Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative, Ambassador Usman Jadoon.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Munir Akram expressed great happiness that diplomatic relations between the two countries were being established on the anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence Day.
He said that these relations will open new avenues of cooperation in areas such as human resource management, capacity building, and climate change.
Munir Akram further said that the missions of both countries at the United Nations will work closely together on important matters, including the promotion of international peace and security.
He expressed happiness that Pakistan is the 100th country with which the Federated States of Micronesia has established relations.
On the other hand, Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe expressed joy over the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations. He said it was an honor for him to officially begin this journey of friendship and partnership with Pakistan while representing his country.
He thanked Pakistan for the support it provided in opening United Nations offices in his country and said he looked forward to working with his Pakistani counterpart to further strengthen the bond of friendship.
