Public frustration is mounting in the United States just three months into President Donald Trump’s administration, as citizens prepare for large-scale protests nationwide against what they describe as aggressive and authoritarian policies backed by both Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.

On Saturday, more than 1,200 “Hands Off!” demonstrations are expected to take place across the country. Organized by over 150 civil rights groups, labor unions, LGBTQ+ advocates, veterans, and pro-democracy activists, the protests aim to challenge the administration’s controversial decisions on governance, economic reforms, human rights, and social policies.

The primary demonstration will take place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., with similar events scheduled in all 50 states, including at state capitals and other major cities. Organizers hope these protests will spark a wave of national civic engagement, reminiscent of the 2017 Women’s March and the Black Lives Matter demonstrations of 2020 that followed George Floyd’s death.

Protesters are voicing opposition to a number of measures enacted by the Trump administration, including:

  • The termination of thousands of federal employees,
  • The closure of Social Security field offices,
  • The effective dismantling of entire federal agencies,
  • The deportation of undocumented immigrants,
  • The rollback of protections for transgender individuals, and Significant cuts to federally funded healthcare programs.

Elon Musk — CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and the social media platform X — is now serving as a top adviser to President Trump. As the head of a newly created Department of Government Performance, Musk has played a pivotal role in restructuring federal agencies and reducing government workforce. His justification has centered on reducing what he calls “wasteful spending” and saving billions in taxpayer dollars.

The White House has not responded to media inquiries regarding the protests. President Trump, however, has defended his administration’s actions, claiming that all policies are being enacted in “the best interest of the American people.”

While anti-Trump and anti-Musk demonstrations have occurred several times since January, Saturday’s coordinated protests are expected to be the largest and most organized public display of dissent against the new administration so far.
