Twenty-one Pakistani nationals were among the survivors of a migrant boat that recently sank off the coast of Morocco, the foreign office announced on Sunday, adding that food and medical supplies were being arranged for them.
On Thursday, Pakistan’s foreign office confirmed that a migrant boat carrying 80 passengers, including several Pakistanis, had capsized near Morocco while en route to Spain.
According to Moroccan authorities, 36 people were rescued on Wednesday from the vessel, which had departed Mauritania on January 2. The boat reportedly carried 86 migrants, including 66 Pakistanis, as per the minority rights group Walking Borders.
“Based on verified information, 21 Pakistani nationals have been identified among the survivors of the maritime incident near Dakhla, Morocco,” the foreign office said in a statement.
“Immediate assistance has been mobilized for the affected nationals through our diplomatic mission in Rabat,” it added.
