This appalling state of affairs in hospitals in Interior Sindh is no secret, but a video that recently went viral has brought the issue to the fore in a shocking manner.
The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows a patient at Umerkot District Hospital receiving oxygen through a bicycle air pump. The incident sparked an outcry on social media, with many raising questions about the sorry state of healthcare in Sindh, a province governed by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) since 2008.
It should be noted that MM News could not confirm the authenticity of the video at the moment.
However, at the level of Deputy Commissioner, there was an instant reaction over the video to seek a response from MS of that hospital.
Meanwhile, the MS dismissed the video as fake, asserting that Umerkot District Hospital is fully equipped with a proper oxygen system and that no such incident occurred.
The event has made the public revisit the claim of the provincial government that the health care facilities of Sindh are the most developed in the country. Earlier, the PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, had declared the hospitals of Sindh among the best in the country, thus setting them as models for improving the healthcare delivery in Pakistan as a whole.
