The “Green Sabeel”, a unique way to honor Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), is an environmental initiative inspired by the values of Karbala, especially sacrifice and service.
Unlike the traditional Sabeel, which provides water in memory of the thirst of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, the Green Sabeel inspires people to preserve the environment by planting trees and promoting environmental sustainability as a way to pay homage.

The initiative symbolizes giving life and shade — acts of service that are deeply connected to Islamic teachings and the moral legacy of Karbala.
This unique sabeel of plants set up in Karachi
A beautiful way to share life, nurture the environment & keep the remembrance of Imam Hussain (AS) alive & green
Let’s also become part of this green sabeel and plant a tree to spread the message of Karbala to the earth#Ashura2025 pic.twitter.com/MDc4dz1FxA— Ijaz Shigri (@GashabrumII) July 5, 2025
This initiative, often organized by community groups, religious organizations, and environmental activists during the months of Muharram and Safar, isn’t just a just spiritual offering but rather a practical response to environmental crises, combining religious awareness with environmental responsibility.
