Malayalam film star Nivin Pauly has been booked after a woman filed a complaint alleging that he sexually abused her at a hotel in Dubai last year. Pauly has denied the allegations.
The case, filed in Kerala’s Ernakulam district, names Nivin Pauly as the sixth accused, alongside five others: Sreya (the primary accused), producer AK Sunil, Binu, Basheer, and Kuttan.
During a press conference on September 3, Pauly dismissed the allegations as part of a conspiracy, claiming he did not know the woman who made the complaint.
He said his intention to fight the charges legally, describing the complaint as fake. “An FIR has been registered against me. I will fight it legally. I am willing to go to any lengths to prove my innocence, as such fake allegations can be made against anyone. I am speaking for all of them. If I don’t, such incidents will continue to happen,” Pauly said at the press conference.
The case against Pauly is the latest in a series of legal actions involving prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry, following the release of the Hema Committee report. Other notable individuals charged with sexual harassment include filmmaker Ranjith, actor and CPI(M) MLA Mukesh, and actors Edavela Babu, Baburaj, Jayasurya, and Siddique.
