“Kalki 2898 AD,” starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles, has concluded its successful run at the worldwide box office. In India, it grossed over ₹7 billion, while its global earnings surpassed ₹10.5 billion.
Plot
Directed by Nag Ashwin, “Kalki 2898 AD” is a dystopian film that merges science fiction with mythology, often hailed as India’s ‘Avengers moment,’ according to Rana Daggubati. Prabhas stars as Bhairava, a modern and fun-loving savior, while Deepika Padukone portrays Sumati, a mother of an unborn child destined to be Kalki, the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, whom evil forces aim to destroy. This role follows her previous portrayals of a mother in “Brahmastra” and “Jawan.”
Amitabh Bachchan plays Ashwatthama, inspired by the immortal character from the Mahabharata, who protects the unborn child with the aid of a gemstone on his forehead. The trailer reveals a younger, de-aged version of Amitabh in flashbacks, showcasing him in intense action sequences.
Kamal Haasan appears as Yaskin, likely the primary antagonist, whose goal is to eliminate Sumati’s unborn child to sustain the Kalyug he has created. Disha Patani features as Roxie, a bounty hunter, and Keerthy Suresh provides the voice for Buji, a futuristic car and Bhairava’s sidekick.

The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, Rajendra Prasad, Shobhana, Saswata Chatterjee, Brahmanandam, Pasupathy, Anna Ben, Malvika Nair, and Kavya Ramachandran.
