NAB to grill ex-PM Gilani in illegal appointment case

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau  (NAB) has summoned former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani today to probe him in the illegal appointment case.

NAB asked Gillani to appear before Rawalpindi bureau over the appointment of Yousuf Baig Mirza as managing director of state-run Pakistan Television (PTV).
The development comes a month after Mirza resigned from his post as the special assistant to the prime m inister on media affairs citing personal reasons. He served in the position of special assistant for almost a year.

According to NAB, “Gillani misused his powers and appointed the former MD of PTV illegally.
In September 2018, the NAB initiated investigation against Gillani in a case of alleged misuse of authority in a publicity campaign of Universal Service Fund (USF) which caused heavy losses to the national exchequer.

Gillani has also been summoned by the accountability court on 13th January in the illegal advertisement contracts case.
Former secretary of Information Technology Farooq Awan, former Press Information Officer (PIO) Muhammad Saleem, former Universal Service Fund secretary Syed Hasan Sheikh, and others are also nominated in the same case.
