ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari was released from custody at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) where he was seeking medical treatment.
Yesterday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the fake bank accounts cases on medical grounds.
Zardari is currently being shifted to Bilawal House in the federal capital. The party will decide when he should be flown to Karachi.
The former president was accompanied by his children Bilawal and Aseefa when he was allowed to the hospital
The IHC had has ordered Zardari to submit surety bonds of Rs20 million. The court was adjourned proceedings on the bail petition of his sister and lawmaker Faryal Talpur till December 17. Both Zardari and Talpur have been under detention for the past six months.
Zardari has submitted the surety bonds in an accountability court in the fake bank accounts cases. The court issued separate robkars (mandamuses) for Zardari’s release. The rokbar is a judicial writ issued as a command to an inferior court or ordering a person to perform a public or statutory duty.
The robkars were dispatched to the superintendent of the Adiala Jail after the submission of surety bonds.

During the today, Judge Azam Khan inquired from the guarantor, “Are you aware of whom you are giving the guarantee?” To this, the guarantor responded he knew that.
Earlier on Wednesday, the IHC granted Zardari bail on the medical grounds in the fake bank accounts case and ordered to submit surety bonds worth Rs 10 million.
Zardari is facing charges of money laundering and has been undergoing treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad. He was arrested on June 10 after the cancellation of his pre-arrest bail in the fake bank accounts case.
He was shifted to PIMS in October after the medical board stated that he was suffering from cardiac problems, diabetes, and other ailments, and needed medical care.
