Netflix’s newly released ‘Dear Child’ is all about a 13-year-old missing persons case, being reopened and a mysterious murder followed by an identity fraud.
The German thriller series is an adaptation of the international bestselling novel Dear Child (original title Liebes Kind) by German author Romy Hausmann. Let’s find out who actually killed Lena, the woman who was kidnapped 13 years ago.
Dear Child
Dear Child follows the story of Jasmin/Lena and the children, revealing how an unsolved missing persons case finally unfolds after 13 long years.
What happens in ‘Dear Child’?
When Jasmin Grass (Kim Riedle) is kidnapped in a parking garage in the German thriller series Dear Child, she finds herself locked in a small windowless apartment in the middle of a northern German forest.
Her abductor whose face through out the episodes remains hidden dyes her dark hair blonde and calls her ‘Lena’.
From that moment on, she’s forced to live according to his strict rules and look after ‘their’ young children, Hannah (Naila Schuberth) and Jonathan (Sammy Schrein).
After five months, Lena manages to flee from her prison in a desperate and harrowing escape — but soon realizes she can’t hide from her perpetrator.

Who is the killer?
As it turns out, the man who masters the locks is also the key to all the mysteries that converge in Dear Child. The faceless man we meet in the beginning –– the man who orders Jasmin not to cry as he denies her food, the one who always seems to know where everyone is and what they are doing –– is none other than Lars Rogner (Christian Beermann), owner of a local surveillance and security company.
He’s been living in plain sight all the 13 years that CID investigator Gerd Bühling (Hans Löw) has been searching for Lena Beck.
The limited series series containing six episodes is streaming on Netflix.
