Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Bet, its upcoming English-language series inspired by the popular manga Kakegurui by Homura Kawamoto and Toru Naomura, as reported by international media.
Set in an elite international boarding school, the show centers on Yumeko (played by Miku Martineau), a mysterious new student with a dangerous addiction to gambling.
In this cutthroat academy, social status is dictated by underground gambling matches where students risk everything, from money to their freedom.
As Yumeko shakes up the school’s ruthless hierarchy, she catches the attention of the powerful student council, sparking intense and often deadly showdowns. Created for TV by Warrior Nun’s Simon Barry, Bet embraces the manga’s over-the-top drama, psychological warfare, and bold themes, including a strong streak of homoerotic tension.
Bet is the latest adaptation of the Kakegurui franchise, which has already spawned multiple anime seasons produced by Studio MAPPA, live-action Japanese dramas, spin-off manga series, and feature films.
Since its debut in 2014, Kakegurui has grown into a global cult sensation, known for its intense psychological battles, eccentric characters, and unique blend of high-stakes gambling with dark, often surreal storytelling.
