SAN FRANCISCO: The new study has revealed that the Taxi service Uber is reportedly contributing to air pollution and climate change.
Data compiled by Euromonitor for European research and campaign group Transport & Environment shows a correlation between the surge in the number of ride-share drivers in major European cities and increasing levels of air pollution.

The research stated, “Uber is part of the traffic and pollution problem, adding car trips in our cities and adding to the climate and pollution crisis.”
The research added, “Instead, the convenience of door-to-door, app-based trip booking makes traveling by hired cars in cities more and more popular, risking a reversal of a 15-year trend of reducing car trips in cities.”

Uber operations in London, Paris, and Brussels likely pump out 525,000 tons of CO2 a year, equal to the emissions from 250,000 cars which runs counter to the cities’ ambitions to reduce their climate footprint.
Uber reacted to the report by saying they are working with cities to reduce air pollution.
“We are committed to helping people and cities move away from transportation overly reliant on car ownership towards a shared, electric future,” said an Uber spokesperson.
