Incompetents, thieves, corrupts and traitors have been part of Pakistan’s politics since the beginning. The story of this game is as old as the existence of the country itself.
At the beginning of the establishment of Pakistan, especially when the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah died, unfortunately, there was a power struggle among the politicians. The great feudal leaders of the nation got so engrossed in conspiracies against each other for power. As a result, the country remained until military rule for eight years. During this period, the politicians provided an opportunity for the powerful and influential elites to get involved in the game of politics through mutual disputes.
So, bureaucrats like Malik Ghulam Muhammad emerged as important players in this game of power and when they got the opportunity, they ousted some politicians by accusing them of being traitors and incompetents.
Malik Ghulam Muhammad was a classic example of the powerful role of bureaucracy in politics. Politicians did not reform their behavior and continued the unpleasant and unwise course of mutual antagonism and disagreement.
And then when the most powerful institution saw the path of politics and power once, all the other roles became secondary and this process is still going on. Ayub Khan removed unpopular politicians from the game through laws like Ibdo and set up a new nursery of politicians.
Time has turned, a politician who grew up in Ayub Khan’s nursery created problems for his power. The man was Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who later came to be known as Quaid-e-Awam and emerged as a powerful civilian ruler of the country.
But how long? When the shadow of power lasts forever, Bhutto started to cut off the opposition politicians, the existence of the opposition became unbearable for him, so one day he had to be ousted from power by the same unpopular politicians. This time the conflict was of such intensity that the game went out of the hands of the politicians.
Now come to the nineties, nature gave the opportunity to the two major parties to serve the nation by accepting each other’s mandate in the light of democratic principles, but instead, they preferred to confront each other and They accused each other of corruption, looting the country and treason, finally, the army came to power again and the politicians were put in jail.
After the departure of General Musharraf, the politicians got another opportunity to reform their attitude and solve the problems of the country and the nation with positive thinking, but what happened was that the old tradition of the politicians came back again. The opposition leader Mian Nawaz Sharif reached the court to disqualify Pakistan People’s Pary’s PM with the help of power full instituions.
Again, the situation took a turn, Mian Nawaz Sharif was just consolidating his position as a powerful Prime Minister when Imran Khan brought the Panama scandal to court and then with their “combined” efforts, Nawaz was overthrown in July 2017. Sharif was declared disqualified by the court.
Imran Khan was elected Prime Minister in the next year’s elections, so he locked horns with his opponents. The result came out in the form of the scientific principle of reaction and finally this year Imran Khan was removed from power in the fourth year of their Prime Ministership in a mysterious atmosphere.
The new government, as soon as they came, adopted the same approach that Imran Khan had adopted when he took over the government, so cases were established against Imran Khan, and the proceedings on the already made cases were accelerated, all this resulted in Toshakhana case yesterday, in which PTI chief has been disqualified.
Imran Khan has been disqualified at a time when he is touching the new height of political and public popularity. Undoubtedly, Imran Khan is currently the most popular politician of the country. The sign of his popularity is that he has recently won six out of eight seats in the by-elections under the same Election Commission which disqualified him.
There is no doubt that Imran Khan has been disqualified through a legal process under the laws of the country, but in the light of past experiences, it seems that this decision also has some unseen implications.
One thing is certain Imran Khan, who until now was hesitant to reach the final decision and date to play the final round against the government, after this decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan, seems that decision has become easier for him.
Rather, it should be understood that this decision is actually a bugle for his march, so this bugle has now sounded with full force, it is to be seen which initiative Imran Khan prefers. As if this decision has given the remote control of the game to Imran Khan.
The tradition is that decisions to disqualify politicians with the help of law and institutions have always proved to be ineffective, they have never been seen to be sustainable. It is to be seen how long Imran Khan’s current disqualification takes its effects, like the process of gradual withdrawal of Nawaz Sharif’s legal disqualification!
