The distant Delhi

Shahid Shahnawaz by Shahid Shahnawaz
August 24, 2022

The story of the rule of the Mughal kings on the subcontinent is as proud as it is despicable, in which there is a mention of a king, Muhammad Shah Rangela, who became famous for his Persian phrase of the distant Delhi.
History shows that Mohammad Shah Rangeela was a very extravagant person, disinterested in religion and addicted to alcohol and youth. His placement on the throne proved to be the biggest mistake of the Mughal era and Nadir Shah attacked Delhi.

During the attack, Muhammad Shah Rangela’s army could not stand up to Nadir Shah and was defeated by an army with half the number of soldiers due to the old and heavy weapons provided by Muhammad Shah Rangela.

It is said that Muhammad Shah Rangela rarely ventured out of Delhi during his more than 20-year reign and never paid attention to observing the world. When Nadir Shah was attacked, he repeatedly kept saying that Hanuz Delhi is far away, meaning that Delhi is still far away, and Nadir Shah arrested him.

Still Dilli Dur-Ist has become a proverb in Urdu language which means to hide one’s head in the sand even in the face of danger and perhaps today Pakistan is also facing a similar situation.

Yesterday, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is the foreign minister in the federal government, directed the provincial government to remove rainwater from highways, streets and houses after heavy rains

He also directed the Sindh government to start rehabilitation of damaged roads, drainage and houses of rain-affected people. In this regard, former President Asif Zardari said that we have to leave politics and help the flood victims.
Come on, Today, the plight of the people in the flood-affected areas, especially Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab, is indescribable. In such a situation, the rehabilitation work that will probably or possibly be started for the affected people by the Sindh government under the direction of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is still akin to Delhi.

Earlier, Sindh Information Minister had said that the infrastructure has been damaged on a large scale due to the rains in Sindh. The devastated people of Sindh today are forced to ask their provincial government that while they are starving on water-filled roads and streets, from whom should the people seek justice?

A similar situation is also seen in Balochistan and Punjab while the federal government Shehbaz Gul and the Punjab government seem to be embroiled in other political issues including the arrest of Imran Khan. It is necessary that the federal and provincial governments understand the problems of the people and pay attention to their solutions because the provision of basic human rights should be the first priority of the government.
