KU allows canteens to provide take away service from Monday

KARACHI: The administration of the University of Karachi has allowed all the canteens to offer takeaway service from Monday to facilitate students, and staff.

After the unfortunate suicide attack at the varsity on April 26, 2022, on the campus, the administration closed all the canteens, including the central cafeteria, until the compilation of a database of people working in such food outlets.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the administration has decided that all canteens will reopen from Monday to facilitate students. However, the canteens are allowed to offer takeaway service only.

According to the KU acting Registrar Professor Dr Maqsood Ali Ansari, the decision has been taken after getting the security clearance and central cafeteria, Majeed and Sufi hotels were already allowed to serve students, faculty and employees.

Speaking about the closure of canteens, Maqsood Ali said that the varsity’s administration had to take these measures as safety of students and employees was on top priority and could not be compromised. “We have opened the canteens immediately after receiving the green signal,” he added.

He mentioned that the varsity administration has also brought more free of cost on-campus shuttle services to facilitate students and staff. “No employee will be allowed to enter the campus without Employees Card while students should not be allowed to enter the campus without Student ID Cards,” he concluded.
