Cantonments board polls: Unofficial results continue to pour in

KARACHI: With the unofficial results start pouring in, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seems to be taking the lead in Cantonments Board elections across Pakistan.

According to details, a total of 1,569 candidates stood for elections in 219 wards of 41 cantonment boards. Polling started at 8am and continued without any break till 5pm. Seven candidates have already been elected unopposed so far.

In addition, there is no competition in four wards of Kamra, none in one ward of Rawalpindi and none in one ward of Pano Aqil. Therefore, polls today were held in 206 wards.

Karachi

According to the unofficial results, in Manohra Cantt Ward 1, PPP’s Muhammad Tayyab was declared the winner with 111 votes while the independent candidate Abdul Aleem Kokni got 63 votes.

Fazal Khan of PPP won from Manohra Cantt Ward 2 with 550 votes while Ayaz Khan of PTI came second with 198 votes. Amanullah, a PTI candidate from Malir Cantt Ward 4, won with 96 votes while JI’s Muhammad Tahir Alam came second.

Hyderabad

According to unofficial results, MQM-Pakistan is in the lead in Cantonment Board Hyderabad. Hyderabad cantonment board has 10 wards.

Walton Cantonment Board, Lahore

Unofficial results showed PTI candidate Chaudhry Sayam is in the lead with 125 votes. PML-N’s Qari Muhammad has so far secured 75 votes.

Multan

Ward No 2: Independent candidate Ghulam Jeelani secured victory. Ward No 3: PML-N candidate Akhtar Rasool emerged successful. Ward No 9: Independent candidate Muhammad Sadiq won. Ward No 10: Independent candidate Khursheed Khan winner.

2.1m voters registered

In all the 42 cantonments, 2,197,441 voters (1,154,551 men and 1,043,190 women) are registered. According to the ECP, 5,080 polling booths were set up in 1,644 polling stations.

The Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen) is also monitoring the cantonment board elections for the first time with the deployment of 74 male and 46 female observers. Fafen will release its observation report on September 15 to media and other stakeholders.

The cantonments where elections are being held are Rawalpindi, Chaklala, Wah, Taxila, Murree, Attock, Sanjwal, Jhelum, Mangla, Sargodha, Shorkot, Gujranwala, Kharian, Sialkot, Lahore, Walton, Okara, Multan and Bahawalpur (Punjab); Hyderabad, Karachi, Clifton, Malir, Faisal, Korangi Creek, Manora and Panno Aqil (Sindh); Peshawar, Risalpur, Nowshera, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, D.I. Khan, Abbottabad and Havelian (KP); and Quetta, Zhob and Loralai (Balochistan).
