The animated short movie ‘Swipe’ is the first Pakistani short movie that has bagged an award at Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2021.
Director Arafat Mazhar’s Swipe is a thought-provoking short film, which is receiving well-deserved recognition globally. The director shared the news on his Instagram Story. In March this year, Swipe became the first Pakistani film to be selected for screening at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The 14-minute animated short was released last year in November. Swipe is a story of a boy who is addicted to an app that crowdsources death sentences. The film examines extremism resulting from excessive accessibility to technology.

According to the film’s official synopsis, “Swipe is a hand-painted animated short film about Pakistan made by a team of 20 Pakistani animators, musicians, storytellers, and actors over the course of one year.”
