Changsha: An 11-year-old boy in China was rushed to hospital after completing 14 consecutive hours of homework without any break.
According to international media, the incident occurred last month in Changsha, where the child worked on assignments continuously from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Late at night, around 11 p.m., the boy began experiencing severe anxiety, rapid breathing, dizziness, headaches, and numbness in his hands and feet. Alarmed by his deteriorating condition, his parents immediately took him to a nearby hospital.
Doctors revealed that the prolonged academic pressure and nonstop homework had triggered the boy’s breathing issues. He was provided oxygen support to stabilize his condition.
Reports suggest that the child’s parents had been placing constant pressure on him to complete his schoolwork, which contributed to the episode.
The case has sparked debate in China about excessive academic demands on children and the mental and physical toll of overburdening students at a young age.
