LAHORE: A 27-year-old youth sustained severe injuries in a kite-flying-related incident in the Kot Lakhpat area of Lahore on Friday.
A resident of Kot Lakhpat, Usman was going to his office on his bike. As he reached Peco Road, the string of a stray kite got entangled around his neck and left a deep cut. Rescue teams reached the spot after being informed and shifted the injured to the hospital.
Punjab CM Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident expressed grief over the police performance and issued directives for strict action against those responsible for the incident. He directed the Capital City Police Officer Lahore to submit a report on the incident.
During the last 20 days, seven people, including Zahid, were injured in the kite-flying-related incidents in the city, showing the police helpless in controlling the banned activity.
Earlier, a 25-year-old youth died after his throat was slit by a glass-coated kite string in Lahore’s Sanda area. The youth was identified as Usman Khalid was on his way on a bike when a kite string fell on him, slitting his throat, rescue sources informed.
Meanwhile, DIG Operations Lahore Ishfaq Khan took the notice of the incident and had sought a report from Iqbal Town SP Muhammad Ajmal in this regard.
Spiky strings are used to cut the strings of rivals’ kites, but they frequently end up slitting the throats of the people. It is noteworthy, that there is a ban on kite flying in Punjab and several have been booked across the province over violations.
It is worth mentioning here, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had imposed a ban on the manufacture, trade or even flying of kites.
