Queen Elizabeth will turn 95 tomorrow on 21st April with a scaled-down get-together due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the recent passing of her devoted husband of 73 years, Prince Philip.
The Queen, who lost her husband, will no doubt be keenly feeling the absence of Prince Philip who died on 9th April aged 99. However, it has also been reported that the monarch may be joined by loved ones for a scaled-down, Covid-safe gathering.
Meanwhile, another Palace source confirmed that no new birthday portrait of the Queen will be released, what with the royal mourning period in the wake of Philip’s death continuing until Friday.
The news comes as a Ministry of Defence spokesperson confirmed that the traditional gun salutes, which typically take place at Hyde Park and the Tower of London to commemorate the Queen’s birthday, will also not take place.
It’s the second year in a row that the annual tradition has been cancelled, having been halted last year amid the start of the UK’s first national lockdown.
