Tonight’s not just the premiere of Season 22 of American Idol. It’s also the last first episode for Katy Perry.
The TikTok singer is leaving ‘American Idol’ after seven seasons as she announced in ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ by casually revealing her exit.
While responding to a question from Jimmy Kimmel about how long she plans to stay on ‘Idol’, she said, “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for ‘Idol.'” She continued, “I mean, I love ‘Idol’ so much. I know. It’s connected me with the heart of America. But I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat. You know what I’m saying, Jimmy?”
American Idol previously ran on FOX for 15 seasons before the network canceled it in 2016. Earlier this month, Perry announced that she was exiting American Idol after Season 22 during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol,” Perry revealed. She stated that she loves the show “so much” and it has made her feel “connected with the heart of America,” but revealed: “I feel like I need to feel that pulse to my own beat.”
Perry has been with the singing competition show since Season 16, which debuted in 2018. Her exit has not been officially confirmed by ABC,
