The search for the next James Bond is entering its final stages, with several actors reportedly competing to replace Daniel Craig as 007. Amazon MGM Studios has been conducting auditions, with Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson among the names reported to be in contention.
The latest twist comes from British actor Jack Lowden, who has reportedly emerged as a strong contender. Television personality Richard Osman said Lowden is being seriously considered for the iconic role, adding another major name to an already closely watched casting race.
Lowden is best known for playing River Cartwright in Slow Horses, while his other credits include the BBC’s adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall, Dunkirk (2017) and Mary Queen of Scots (2018). Later this year, he’ll appear as Mr Darcy in Netflix’s new adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.
Bond producer Amy Pascal has said the filmmakers are being “really, really methodical” about the decision and expect the new 007 to be announced by the end of 2026.
The new Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Steven Knight writing the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2027.
For now, no actor has officially been confirmed as the next James Bond. The casting announcement later this year is expected to end months of speculation surrounding the successor to Craig.
