Asif William Rahman, a US intelligence official has been charged with espionage offenses regarding the leak last month of highly classified documents detailing Israel’s plans to attack on Iran.
As per the court documents, Asif W Rahman, who works for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), was indicted last Thursday for willfully retaining and transmitting national defense information. Rahman held a top secret security clearance and could access sensitive compartmentalized information.
In mid-October, a Telegram account “Middle East Spectator” shared the documents. They are designated as top secret and bear markings that suggest only the United States and its “Five Eyes” allies—Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom—are supposed to see them.
Who is Asif W. Rahman?
Rahman was arrested in Cambodia on charges of leaking classified information. He is accused of disclosing sensitive U.S. defense details concerning Israel’s potential military responses to Iran. This unauthorized release of classified information could impact U.S. security and diplomatic relations in the Middle East.
One leaked document, reportedly compiled by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, outlined a plan involving the movement of Israeli munitions, while another described Tel Aviv’s Air Force exercises with air-to-surface missiles. A major revelation within the documents concerned Israel’s nuclear capabilities—a topic Israel has never officially acknowledged.
