Arifwala, Punjab: A boundary wall near a helipad collapsed during the landing of a helicopter carrying Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Arifwala, Pakpattan district, on Friday.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
According to reports, the chief minister was visiting Arifwala to inaugurate the Nawaz Sharif School of Eminence. The wall, located near the helipad at a private housing society, collapsed during the helicopter’s landing.
Senior journalist Ghazanfar Abbas claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the wall gave way due to the strong air pressure generated by the helicopter’s rotor blades during landing.
The report further stated that the wall was allegedly structurally weak and was unable to withstand the force of the helicopter’s downwash.
However, this explanation has not been independently verified by authorities.
Sources said the incident did not disrupt the chief minister’s visit, and the inauguration programme proceeded as scheduled. No official statement has been issued regarding the cause of the wall’s collapse.
