Veteran Bollywood star Dilip Kumar has passed away on Wednesday morning.
The legendary actor was 98 passed away at 7:30 am today due to prolonged illness. Dilip Kumar is survived by his wife, veteran actor Saira Banu. The actor’s last rites will be performed in Mumbai at 5 pm. He will be cremated in Juhu. Before his funeral, Dilip Kumar’s body will be taken to his home in Bandra.
Dr. Jalil Parkar told Indiaexpress, Kumar was admitted to hospital in Mumbai after he complained of breathlessness. Last month, the star was hospitalised after a similar complaint. He was admitted to Hinduja hospital on 6th June after he complained of breathlessness, and was later discharged on 11th June.
To specify the reason for his ill health, his personal handle had tweeted, “Dilip Sahab has been admitted to non-Covid PD Hinduja Hospital Khar for routine tests and investigations.” He further wrote, “He’s had episodes of breathlessness. A team of healthcare workers led by Dr. Nitin Gokhale is attending to him. Please keep Sahab in your prayers and please stay safe.”
Born as Yusuf Khan, Dilip Kumar was regarded as one of the greatest actors that India has ever seen, his career spanned over five iconic decades. Some of his best known films are Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Ram Aur Shyam, Naya Daur, Madhumati, Kranti, Vidhaata, Shakti and Mashaal, to name just a few.
Dilip Kumar was born in the Qissa Khawani Bazaar area of Peshawar (present day Pakistan). He debuted in movies with 1944’s Jwar Bhata and was last seen in the 1998 film Qila. His death has left a gaping void in the film industry.
