UN has taken up IoK issue after 5 decades: FM Shah

LAHORE:  Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday said that after five decades, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has taken up the issue of Indian occupied Kashmir.
While addressing All Parties Kashmir Conference in Lahore, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, “Kashmir was an un-debated issue for years. After the UN took it up, it has now become an international issue which is encouraging for Kashmiri people.”
The foreign minister said that the Indian government revoking Kashmir’s status has given Kashmir’s independence movement a new dimension altogether.
He said that India’s unconstitutional and illegal move to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A has changed the dimension of the Kashmir issue.
Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan in this regard had instantly called parliamentary sessions after India’s unilateral move.
He added that Pakistan has been continuously engaging the international community and apprising them on Kashmir’s deteriorating situation.
The foreign minister said, “Struggle for Kashmir is continuous. We have to tell the world that the whole nation is united on the Kashmir issue.”
Since August, India in a unilateral move abrogated Articles 370 and 35A ending the special status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. A curfew in Kashmir has been placed since then which has led a communication blackout in the valley.
