TANK: At least two security personnel were martyred and two others sustained serious injuries after a bomb blast targeted a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) on the Tank–Waziristan main road on Monday, according to police.
The explosion occurred near Mashah Jan Bungalow within the jurisdiction of the Shaheed Murid Akbar police station on Jandola Road, police sources said.
The martyred personnel were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Faridullah Khan and FC official Akhtar Zaman. Two other policemen, Abdul Malik and Qudratullah, son of Aslam, suffered serious injuries in the attack.
Police said the blast struck the APC while it was on routine movement in the area. The injured officials were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken for medico-legal formalities.
Security forces and police rushed to the site soon after the explosion, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace those responsible. Investigators were also collecting evidence to determine the nature of the explosive device used in the attack.
No group had immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, and authorities were continuing their investigation.
