US President Donald Trump said he decided to delay a planned attack on Iran that had reportedly been scheduled for Tuesday, following requests from Gulf leaders, according to AFP.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said “serious negotiations” were currently taking place with Iran and expressed confidence that a diplomatic agreement could still be reached.
He added, however, that the United States remained prepared to launch a “full, large-scale assault” on Iran at short notice if talks failed to produce an acceptable deal.
Speaking later during a White House event, Trump described recent developments in negotiations with Iran as “very positive,” saying regional allies had informed him that both sides were close to reaching an agreement that would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

“It’s a very positive development, but we’ll see whether or not it amounts to anything,” Trump said.
