US President Donald Trump claimed during a Republican fundraising event that people in Iran want him to become their next Supreme Leader, though he said he immediately rejected the idea.
Speaking at the event, Trump said Iranian officials are willing to negotiate and want to reach an agreement, but are unable to admit it openly due to fear.
He stated that the Iranian public sees him as a potential Supreme Leader, but added that he clearly told them, “No, thank you. This position is not my priority.”
Trump further said there is a sense of fear among Iran’s leadership and the public, suggesting that openly expressing such views could expose them to threats either from within the country or from the United States.
The remarks come at a time when relations between Iran and the United States remain a subject of ongoing global tension and debate.
