LAHORE: The Mass Transit Authority (Metro) has abolished the token-and-card system for public transport services in Lahore, affecting travel on the Orange Train, Speedo, and Metro buses.
Uzair Shah, the authority’s in-charge, said passengers holding old transit cards will not receive a refund of the remaining balance. Instead, they can use alternative payment methods including T-Cash cards, a mobile app, and ATM cards for commuting.
Speaking about the deposit procedure, Shah said that if passengers return their old cards at the relevant stations, they will receive only the security deposit—Rs 130—while the balance amount on the card will not be reimbursed.
However, some commuters have raised concerns, claiming that even though the transit authority has said the cards are being terminated, they are still being recharged. Passengers said they were not provided clear information on how the card termination will be implemented in practice.
The authority has directed commuters to deposit their old cards at stations, while disputes over ongoing charges continue among affected riders.
