KARACHI: The bodies of Pakistani crew members killed in a deadly pirate attack near Somalia, along with four injured sailors, are scheduled to return to Pakistan this evening.
According to an official letter sent by the Pakistani Embassy in Somalia to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the bodies of the ship’s Second Officer Kashif Umar, Third Engineer Mahmood Ansari and a boiler operator will arrive at Karachi airport at 4pm today.
Arrangements Made for Victims and Injured Crew
The letter directed the relevant authorities to complete all arrangements at Karachi airport for the safe handover of the bodies and injured crew members, as well as the provision of ambulances.
Four crew members injured in the attack — Yasir Khan, Aqeel Khan, Usman Ghani and Shams Amin — will also return to Karachi this evening on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-694.
Officials to Receive Returning Crew
Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi will represent the Government of Pakistan at Karachi airport and receive the returning crew members.
The Pakistan Airports Authority, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Pakistanis Foundation have also been directed to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place at the airport for the arrival of the victims and injured sailors.
