Rawalpindi Police have claimed a breakthrough in the murder case of TikToker Shamsoo Bibi alias Ayesha Gilamana, arresting five suspects, including the victim’s father and real brother.
According to police, the arrested suspects have been identified as the victim’s father Fazal, brother Bashir, cousin Ehsan, father’s uncle Rozi Khan and cousin’s son Yasin. All five suspects are currently in police custody.
SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob said during a press conference at Police Lines Rawalpindi that police had traced the blind murder after an extensive investigation. Several special teams were constituted on the instructions of CPO Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, with the teams submitting regular updates to the CPO during the investigation.
Police said more than 100 CCTV cameras were examined and human intelligence and other available sources were also utilised to identify the suspects.
According to the initial investigation, the police expanded the scope of the probe after examining the circumstances and sequence of events surrounding the murder and questioned the victim’s father and brother.
Police said the suspects confessed during interrogation that Ayesha was allegedly killed by her father and brother with the assistance of their accomplices. Investigators also found that the suspects had allegedly attempted to create a false impression to mislead the investigation and evade the law.
The police said the initial investigation suggested that the murder was committed in the name of honour. However, further investigation is underway and may lead to additional important revelations.
Police said all five suspects were arrested on the basis of evidence collected during the investigation, while further legal proceedings are continuing.
