The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rainfall, urban flooding, and glacier-related flood risks across Pakistan over the next 12 to 24 hours.
The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) revealed that the upcoming weather conditions are based on the predictions made some months ago. Moreover, the NDMA said that it had been giving timely warnings and risk assessments to the government departments and district authorities.
The rain, thunderstorms, windstorm, and dust storm were expected in different parts of the country, like Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and some parts of Sindh.
The major cities, such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Karachi, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Turbat may witness bad weather conditions.
Furthermore, the NDMA has issued an advisory related to Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir.
This may lead to flash floods, landslide, and debris flow in the region. It was ordered to the district administrations and emergency service providers to stay alert for any emergency situations.
