US Vice President JD Vance on Sunday praised Pakistan’s mediatory role in the Washington-Tehran deal as he met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Earlier, delegations from the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan arrived at the venue earlier for technical-level discussions following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Tehran and Washington to a ceasefire and agree to a permanent solution of the conflict.
It should be noted that as per MOU, the United States and Iran have reached a preliminary framework that includes ending the conflict, lifting the US blockade on Iran, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Formal talks between the two sides are expected to begin shortly, according to the Swiss Foreign Ministry. Delegations from the US, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar have already reached the venue.

A senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office said that a four-country delegation-level meeting was scheduled for 4pm PKT, during which the heads of the delegations are expected to deliver remarks. The official added that it remains unclear whether the Pakistani delegation will return today.
State-run broadcaster PTV, reporting live from Burgenstock, said the technical-level negotiations between the US and Iranian delegations could continue into tomorrow. No formal timeline has been announced, and discussions are expected to proceed for as long as necessary.
Meanwhile, responding to a Pakistani journalist’s question about Islamabad’s role in the mediation, US vice president was effusive about his praise, saying “Very good, we love Pakistan.”
