LAHORE: Three suspects implicated in the harassment of a woman in Ichhra were placed on a three-day remand by an anti-terrorism court in Lahore.
The accused, namely Muhammad Nadeem, Adeel Sarwar, and Altmash Saqlain, were remanded by the court.
According to the case’s investigating officer, the accused had assembled a mob and tried to kill the woman who had arrived to Ichchra Bazaar while wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy on it, in addition to harassing her.
Initially, the police requested a 30-day remand, citing the need to recover weapons allegedly possessed by the accused. However, the court denied the request and granted a three-day remand instead.
In February, a woman faced harassment from a mob in Lahore’s Ichhra area due to wearing a dress adorned with Arabic calligraphy.
Videos of the incident went viral on social media, showing the woman in a restaurant wearing the said dress. The police intervened to rescue the woman from the shop, despite the mob’s claims that her attire disrespected the Holy Quran.
