LAHORE: Intermittent light and heavy rainfall continued across Lahore on Saturday, causing widespread water-logging, disrupting traffic, and leading to fatal roof collapse incidents in different parts of the city.
Rainwater accumulated on several major roads, including Kalma Chowk, Barkat Market, Muslim Town, Model Town, and Gulberg, slowing the flow of traffic and creating difficulties for commuters.
According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), the highest rainfall during the latest spell was recorded at Laxmi Chowk, where 83 millimetres (mm) of rain fell.
WASA’s rainfall data showed that 77 mm of rain was recorded each in Chowk Nakhuda and Pani Wala Talab, while 61.8 mm was recorded in Sagian. Other recorded rainfall included 53.2 mm in Upper Mall and Farrukhabad, 39 mm in Samanabad, 35.6 mm in Gulshan-e-Ravi, 30.8 mm on Jail Road, 27.6 mm in Shadipura, 26.4 mm in Tajpura, 25.4 mm in Johar Town, 24.8 mm in Mughalpura, 20.8 mm in Nishtar Town, 17 mm in Gulberg, 15.8 mm at Lahore Airport, 13.4 mm in Iqbal Town, and 7.6 mm on Defence Road.
The rain also turned deadly, with three members of the same family losing their lives in a roof collapse in Lahore’s Garhi Shahu Railway Colony. According to rescue officials, the roof of a dilapidated house caved in during continuous rainfall, trapping the occupants beneath the debris.
In a separate incident near Ladhar Stop on Bedian Road, the roof of another house collapsed, leaving three people injured. Rescue teams shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during the ongoing spell of rain, particularly those living in old or structurally vulnerable buildings.
