Three children die after eating toxic rice in Shikarpur

Three innocent children died while over 10 others, belonging to the same family, lost consciousness after consuming toxic rice in Khanpur city near Shikarpur on Saturday.

Police said that the incident took place in the house of Gulzar Qureshi.

Those fainted, including Gulzar, Mahnoor, Dilawar and Muskan, were shifted to a hospital in Shikarpur in critical condition.

The deceased were identified as five-year-old Zain, son of Dilawar Qureshi, three-year-old Gul Zeb son of Gulzar Qureshi, and five-year-old Muskan.

The death of three kids plunged the entire locality into a state of mourning.

Earlier, at least three children died and five others turned critical after eating some poisonous sweets distributed by an unidentified rickshaw driver in Qila Sahib Singh locality in Hafizabad city police precincts on Monday night.

Reports said five critical children were referred to Lahore Children Hospital late on Monday night after their initial treatment at Hafizabad district headquarters hospital.

Hafizabad city police have lodged a first information report of the incident on the complaint of Shahbaz Masih.
