NEW DELHI: A Pakistani Muslim woman and her Hindu lover in India, who was said to have married her after she converted to Hinduism, have gone into hiding after authorities claimed they were threatened by zealots from other religions, reports said on Tuesday.
Seema, a married Pakistani woman, and Sachin, an Indian bachelor, first crossed paths in the virtual world of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), a popular online multiplayer game. In a significant turn of events, Seema went to India and decided to convert to Hinduism, embracing Sachin’s religion.
The UP police had arrested Seema for entering India illegally without a visa through Nepal. But later, she was released on bail.
They said Pakistani national Seema Haider and her Indian husband Sachin Meena have gone missing from their Greater Noida home bordering Delhi.
However, now reports say both have gone missing. The Uttar Pradesh anti-terror squad has reportedly started a probe to find out Seema’s Pakistani links and the route she took to enter India.
A senior Uttar Pradesh police officer expressed worries about possible attacks on Seema after she spoke about converting to Hinduism from Islam in order to be with Sachin, according to an India Today report from last week.
The police official warned that some miscreant, garbed as a member of the crowd or as media personnel, may carry out a fatal attack on Seema.
The representative added that even though Seema or Sachin hadn’t formally asked for protection measures, the cops were constantly watching their home.
