Telecom Reorganization Amendment Bill

ISLAMABAD: A committee formed by the Prime Minister has proposed major changes to the Telecom Reorganization Amendment Bill.

The sub-committee headed by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has submitted its report to the main committee. The revised report is likely to be presented to the Prime Minister today.

The sub-committee prepared a new draft after addressing objections on controversial clauses. New proposals have been added to make the bill public-friendly and ensure protection of citizens’ private property.

The clause related to fiberization and other telecom installations on private properties has been reviewed. The proposal to grant free right of way on government land has also been reviewed.

The new Telecom Reorganization Amendment Bill draft includes a proposal for the government to receive appropriate compensation for fiberization and other telecom installations on state land. The bill also ensures protection of the government’s financial interests.

The committee recommended making the existing law more effective and implementable. The new draft has been prepared keeping in view the interests of the public, the government, and the telecom sector. An effort has been made to make the final draft acceptable to both the government and the telecom sector.
