South Africa brought India’s run of consecutive victories to an end with a commanding 76-run win in a Super Eight Group One fixture of the ICC T20 World Cup.
The match was played in Ahmedabad, where South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Posting an imposing total, they scored 187 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
For South Africa, David Miller top-scored with 63, while Dewald Brevis made 45 and Tristan Stubbs contributed 44.
India’s bowling effort was led by Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh took two.
In reply, India’s batting line-up collapsed under pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals. Shivam Dube was the top scorer with 42, but none of the other batters managed to make a significant contribution. The entire side was bowled out for 111 in the 19th over.
The defeat marked India’s first loss in the tournament after 12 successive wins. The defending champions had remained unbeaten since the 2024 edition of the World Cup until this fixture.
