The animated sequel earned $69 million from 4,284 theaters across the United States and Canada, bringing its domestic total to $308.1 million and its worldwide earnings to $629 million, according to studio estimates.
The film saw a 48% drop from its opening weekend, a relatively modest decline for a major blockbuster release.
Despite its strong performance, comparisons with the original remain notable. By its second weekend in 2023, The Super Mario Bros.
Movie had already crossed $353 million domestically and was outperforming its sequel, which had also received comparatively mixed reviews. However, industry analysts say the current installment remains a major hit given its $110 million production budget.
Paul Dergarabedian of Comscore described the film’s performance as “very respectable,” adding that surpassing the $300 million mark so quickly is “astonishing,” especially considering a large portion of ticket sales likely came from lower-priced family audiences.
The film’s success is also helping maintain momentum at the box office ahead of the summer season. Meanwhile, Universal’s new romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany, starring Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page, debuted in fourth place with $8 million from 3,151 screens against an $18 million budget, drawing an audience that was reportedly 80% female.
