KARACHI: A bank customer in Pakistan’s financial capital Karachi received Rs1000 notes which were blank on one side.
According to media reports, a customer of the National Bank withdrew some cash from the government-owned commercial bank, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), only to find that two of the Rs1000 currency notes were printed on just one side.
A video clip shared by an NBP branch manager showcased the peculiar ‘one-side blank’ Rs1000 notes issued by the central bank. He expressed receiving bundles of these misprinted notes from the State Bank, raising concerns about the circulation of such currency bills.
In response, a spokesman for the State Bank stated that the matter had been forwarded to the relevant department. The central bank has also initiated an investigation to determine the root cause behind this printing error.
Earlier this year, the State Bank had announced plans to introduce a new banknote series to combat counterfeit currency and promote the documentation of the country’s vast economy.
