The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has refuted claims of nighttime gas load-shedding for domestic consumers during the winter season.
A company spokesperson emphasized that domestic consumers remain a top priority under SSGC’s load management strategy.
“There is no gas load-shedding during the night for the domestic sector,” the spokesperson affirmed, explaining that pressure profiling is carried out to improve gas supply during nighttime hours.
However, the spokesperson acknowledged a gas shortage caused by declining natural reserves, pointing out that annual depletion has significantly contributed to the issue.
Moreover, gas supply has dropped by 40% since the 2017-18 period, while demand continues to rise.
Meanwhile, residents in Karachi have complained about experiencing gas outages, particularly during mealtimes.
The ongoing gas crisis has forced many households to switch to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking, despite incurring high costs for existing natural gas connections.
