Social media users blame PM for sealing Centaurus mall

Salima Bhutto by Salima Bhutto
December 6, 2022

Since the Capital Development Authority (CDA) sealed Centaurus Mall, the hashtag of Islamabad’s famous mall has been trending on social media.

The CDA sealed the mall after safety precautions against fire eruption were not taken. The authority, had issued several notices to the management of Centaurus Mall to ensure safety measures following the outbreak of a fire in the mall a couple of months ago.

However, social media users blamed Prime MInister Shehbaz Sharif for the act and condemned the incumbent government’s move to seal Centaurus mall owned by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir premier, who ‘censured’ PM Shehbaz Sharif for not highlighting the sacrifices of Kashmiris in a speech. Let’s have a look at the tweets:

Sealing of Centaurus Mall by PDM mafia in response to PM AJK censuring SS for not mentioning sacrifices of Kashmiris shows there is law of the jungle in Pak since last 8 mths. Sends negative signals to Kashmiris too. Q for our Honourable Judges: Are they not upholders of the Law?

🚨 The Centuarus Mall in Islamabad has been sealed. It has been reported that Shahbaz Sharif and Sardar Taveer Ilyas, the owner of Centaurus mall, had a heated argument over the illegal use of commercial property. pic.twitter.com/KUpMD0hlwH

Yesterday, Crime Minister Shahbaz Sharif exchanged hot words with the PM of Azad Kashmir & the same night CDA sealed Centaurus Mall…we are living in Banana Republic. Mafia ruling the country! pic.twitter.com/k3X3cny6r4

After the closure of #CentaurusMall by the federal government, the employees of Centaurus Mall are protesting on the roads because their jobs are in danger because the inflation is severe enough. It is a shameful act if this is done as a revenge on behalf of#Team_Defenders pic.twitter.com/Cfink57OaV

Traders have called a strike because of the sealing of Centaurus Mall thanks to bestestest administrator Shehbaz. 😊pic.twitter.com/2V1GEM45Mr

Old habits die hard. Sharif brothers are nothing more than street thugs. This is what they’ve always been doing, using govt power and resources to satisfy their petty egos. This happens when someone asks a question to these incompetent thugs.#CentaurusMall pic.twitter.com/SjhMHKO0qu

— Noman Khan (@mnk_4313) December 6, 2022

The Centaurus Mall may belong to one individual or company but it houses hundreds of retail outlets and restaurants who pay very high rents to do business.

What’s their fault ? Why shut them down ?

— Azam Jamil اعظم (@AzamJamil53) December 6, 2022

Yesterday Sardar Tanveer Ilyas had a heated argument with Crime Minister Showbaz for not mentioning sacrifices of Kashmiris and today Centaurus Mall has been sealed !

Centaurus mall sealed over violation and not adopting fire safety standards in the building.
But seams like it’s a response in heated words exchanged between PM shehbaz and PM AJK Sardar Tanveer (Mall owner)#CentaurusMall #SardarTanveerIlyas
