Grammy-winning singer Arooj Aftab recently made a spectacular debut on the American television show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, captivating viewers with a mesmerizing performance. Aftab performed “Raat Ki Rani,” a track from her latest album Night Rain, which resonated deeply with audiences worldwide, transcending language barriers.
Released in May 2024, Night Rain has already garnered significant acclaim, earning Aftab two Grammy nominations—Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Global Music Performance. Reflecting on her success, she shared her excitement on Instagram, stating, “This is the fourth consecutive year my music has been recognized with Grammy nominations. It’s amazing to be a part of this.” She also expressed gratitude to her fellow artists who contributed to her journey.
Arooj Aftab made history in 2022 by becoming the first Pakistani artist to win a Grammy Award. She earned the prestigious Best Global Music Performance award for her song “Mohabbat.” Speaking about her early career, Aftab recalled how she was once told that “no one’s going to care about your little beautiful songs,” but her perseverance and dedication to her craft led to monumental achievements.
In addition to her Grammy victory, Aftab made history again in 2023 as the first Pakistani musician to perform at the Grammys, where she performed “Udhero Na” with Anoushka Shankar. Her influence on the global stage has become a source of inspiration for South Asian communities, showing them that dreams once thought impossible are now within reach.
Last year, Aftab’s impact was further recognized when she was honored with the Pride of Performance award in Washington, D.C., on August 14, 2023. With her continued success, Aftab is not only reshaping the global music landscape but also providing a beacon of hope and pride for aspiring artists across the world.
