ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shahbaz Gill and ARY director Ammad Yousaf are set to be indicted on Nov 22, according to a challan of an Islamabad court.
Tahir Abbas Sipra, an Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ), reopened the case against Gill, Ammad Yousaf, and others. Their attendance was noted by the judge.
Additional than Gill and Yousaf, according to the special prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi, the investigating team was unable to locate any other substantial evidence against the defendants.
The investigation officer informed the court that the challan for both accused parties had been finished. Gill’s attorney, Advocate Ali Bukhari, asserted that the prosecution used parts from the colonial era to bring charges against Gill. Yousaf’s legal representative requested a permanent exemption from his personal attendance.
Gill and others were booked in the FIR over former’s controversial remarks in a television program.
Gill was arrested in Islamabad following his controversial remarks allegedly about the army during an ARY News bulletin.
He had approached the IHC for bail on September 2, after a district and sessions court dismissed his plea for post-arrest bail.
IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah took up the plea and approved Gill’s bail after hearing arguments from both sides.
The IHC CJ remarked that the armed forces were not so weak that someone’s irresponsible statements would affect them.
He added that in no way could Gill’s irresponsible statements be justified.
