LAHORE: Seven people of the same family suffocated to death when a fire erupted in their house late Saturday night in Muzaffargarh.
The tragic incident occurred at midnight in the Pir Jahanian area of Muzaffargarh. The victims including four children and two women belonged to the same family.
The deceased persons were identified as Muhammad Nawaz (65), Khursheed Mai (35), Fouzia Mai (19), Shah Nawaz (12), Sarfaraz (10), Yaqub (2), and another two-month-old baby.
District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Dr Hussain Mian said they received a call that four people were stranded in a house where a fire had erupted. He said that fire vehicles rushed to the site and extinguished the blaze.
Rescue workers said the family was sleeping in the house when the fire broke out. The cause of the fires is yet to be ascertained. Rescue officials said they were continuing their operation to recover any more bodies in the house. Police have also launched an inquiry into the incident.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar expressed regret over the loss of precious lives due to the fire in Muzaffargarh. He asked the Dera Ghazi Khan commissioner to submit a report on the incident and also ordered an investigation into all aspects of the fire incident.
