MARDAN: Police have arrested two suspects, including the main accused, in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of a seventh-grade schoolgirl in the Shergarh area of Mardan, officials said.
According to police, the girl was allegedly abducted while on her way to school. Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the local police station and an investigation was launched.
Authorities said the victim has recorded her statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
In her statement, the schoolgirl alleged that three men abducted her while she was travelling to school. She further claimed that one of the suspects kept her in unlawful confinement for seven days and repeatedly sexually assaulted her during that period.
SP Saddar Roshanzada confirmed that police acted swiftly and arrested the principal suspect along with another individual believed to be connected to the case. The vehicle allegedly used in the crime has also been recovered.
The police officer said the investigation is being conducted on scientific and legal grounds, adding that efforts are underway to collect all available evidence and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Police said raids are continuing to arrest the remaining suspect(s) involved in the case.
